Michigan-based artist Matt Peppler’s gorgeous illustrated posters are a celebration of life and every aspect of it. He creates his works freehand using sharpie markers, which he then color edits and works on in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, infusing them with dynamism and energy. Peppler says that his works include lot of pop culture references and his own personal artistic viewpoints.

After graduating high school in the year 2000, Peppler was studying for a business degree before he was drawn to his true calling. Building upon the foundations of his innate talent, he graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Kendall College of Art of Design. He considers Frank Miller, Andy Warhol and Shephard Fairey to be among his influences.

New York-based artist and designer, Nathan Manire (previously), who excels at conjuring evocative portraits using squiggly shapes, simple lines and even alphabets, is now back with a series of pointillist art. In his series, Manire deconstructs zoomed photographs into pixels and dots.

Eschewing oil paints which are usually the preferred medium of choice for creating such art, Manire has used watercolors to bring his beautiful dot art paintings to life. Manire says that he is constantly trying to find new methods to create portraits, and enjoys working in watercolor and pen most of the time.

Killer Allergies: An Art Zine by Mexican Artist Alfonso de Anda

Alfonso de Anda, an interdisciplinary artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, sent in some art and a promotional video for his new art zine.

Limited to a run of only 300 signed and numbered copies, the zine will have 32 pages of awesome grayscale illustrations inside its 2 ink offset-printed covers.

Artist Phil Hansen Will Turn Your Inspiring Stories into Art

Many of us have limitations, both self-made as well as ones that we were born with, that sometimes hold us back. And then there are those of us, who despite the greatest difficulties, try to reach our full potential.

Multimedia artist Phil Hansen (previously here, here and here) wants to know about your past limitations. Hansen is looking for people to call him on 651-321-4996, and share their stories. He will then write the collective stories onto a 9ft. x 13 ft. canvas, and create a pointillist piece that is made entirely of text. You can can watch and read as each story is being written onto the canvas via the live feed on his site.

Preview of Original Artwork From Spoke Art’s Upcoming Weekend Exhibits

This weekend, the Spoke Art gallery will be participating and exhibiting artworks at two fine art fairs in San Francisco – ArtPad SF and ArtMrkt San Francisco.

The exhibits will include new and recent works by the following artists: Alessandra Maria, Casey Weldon, Dan Speight, Derek Weisberg, Crystal Wagner, Erik Jones, Jessica Hess, Joel Daniel Phillips, Scott Hove, Soey Milk, Tatiana Suarez.

Spoke Art will also have two new exclusive limited edition prints by Scott Scheidly and Erik Jones, at the shows.

Marco Mahler’s 3D Printed Kinetic Sculptures

Marco Mahler (previously), an artist and musician based in Portland, Oregon, has released a new collection of kinetic sculptures on his site, which were created in a collaborative effort with Henry Segerman, a research fellow in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne. Mahler claims that these are the first fully 3D printed mobile sculptures in the world.

Made out of laser sintered nylon plastic – one of the most popular materials used for 3D printing – the intricately designed mobiles come out of the printers in a completely assembled state, and are heatproof up to 80 °C / 176 °F.

How Lithuanians Battled Winter with Creativity

Lithuanian winters can be notoriously harsh, with temperatures sometimes falling below –25 C. The people of the country, who were already depressed due to six months of cold weather, were really crushed when mid-April only brought more snow.

New!, a Lithuanian ad agency, decided to cheer up the people by running an outdoor poster campaign (in collaboration with outdoor experts JC Decaux) in the capital city of Vilnius. Titled “Good things – coming soon,” the upbeat posters announce that summer would be soon be coming along, and with it the promise of warm sunshine, sandy beaches, less clothes, more berries, and brighter colors.

The ongoing campaign is being well received, with calls coming from places like Luxembourg to share the posters. It’s quite heartwarming to know that though these posters were created by an ad agency, there are no logos, nor any products or services being advertised.

Scorsese: An Art Show Tribute to the Cinema of the Legendary Filmmaker

The Spoke Art gallery held a successful multi-artist art show tribute in NYC to the films of Martin Scorsese, one of the greatest film directors of our times. Acknowledging Scorsese’s decades-old, deep connection with the Big Apple, the San Francisco-based gallery had opted to bring the show to NYC, this past weekend.

To help those of us who were unable to attend the show, the gallery will be putting up paintings, prints and sculptures from the show on sale at 5 P.M. (PST), April 26th, via their online store.

A Series of Pop-Humorous Dioramas by Dimitris Polychroniadis

Dimitris Polychroniadis (previously here and here) is a stage designer, architect, and artist who lives and works in Athens, Greece. His works are an anguished, yet darkly humorous comment on the harsh realities faced by his country, and much of the world at the moment.

“Repent,” his latest series of surreal, mixed media diorama sculptures, both takes a look back on the mistaken choices of the recent past, and towards a present and future where lessons have been learned.

Can the deconstructive forces of a crisis, become the motivation for self awareness, both individually and collectively? Humor, romance and dark surrealism are the vehicle via which we attempt to explore the meaning of Repentance. Dimitris Polychroniadis reveals a series of mixed media, diorama sculptures. A colorful miniature world that acts as the setting for the unraveling of (somewhat unsettling) human stories. The cultures of the lowest common denominator, advertisement and slogan art are presented in conjunction with social and political utopias of the early 20th century.

The Surreal 3-Dimensional Art of Danny van Ryswyk

Danny van Ryswyk (NSFW) is an Amsterdam-based digital painter, who creates dark and surreal art using 3D software. Drawing upon the photography of the 19th century as a stylistic inspiration, Ryswyk’s paintings are a fusion of the absurd, the melancholic, and Victorian portraiture. Peering into the looking glass that are his works opens up a Lovecraftian dimension to us, or in his own words, “the idea of a reality that exists outside the range of science’s ability to explain or measure.”

Ryswyk creates his works inside a digital environment, in a painstaking process which can take weeks, if not months to finish.

He starts building each piece using complex 3D-modeling software for use in movies, games and the animation industry. In this stage all subjects are meticulously sculpted from the ground up as if they where made of clay. These sculptures will then be imported in rendering software where he creates organic textures like flesh and fabrics which he applies to his models, bringing them to life. Decors are created, environmental lighting and elaborate illusions are set-up, just as it would be done in a theatre to create the dark dreamy atmosphere Danny van Ryswyk is aiming for. The staged scene will then be rendered to a 2D image and finally painted and further refined until the work is finished.

The artist has an upcoming group exhibition on the 20th and 21st of April, 2013, at the Hoekkunst gallery in the Netherlands.

New Works by Peter Jellitsch

Austrian artist Peter Jellitsch (previously) has updated his site with images of his fantastic science-inspired artworks. Jellitsch hand draws his beautiful interpretations of scientific data using just a pen and pencil onto paper.

The updates include works from his Long Island City Documents, a project in which he used data provided by the SP Weather Station in Long Island City, Queens, New York. Also on the site are pieces from Bleecker Street Documents, an attempt by the artist to make visible the “invisible coating of a physical real-space” by the signals of a Wi-Fi network. The project involved recording WLAN signals in a Manhattan apartment over a period of 45 days, using a radio wave measuring instrument.
